How to prepare a vehicle for flatbed transport
The tow-truck driver handles most of the loading. The customer only needs to prepare access, accurate information and a few necessary items.

Should I put the gearbox in neutral myself?
No. First explain the gearbox type and fault. The driver will select a safe loading method; locked wheels may require transport dollies.
Before the tow truck arrives
Keep the vehicle key or access card and any documents needed by the receiving workshop ready. Remove money, documents and valuable personal items.
- Provide access to the front and rear when this can be done safely.
- Report low ground clearance, all-wheel drive, an automatic gearbox or damaged steering.
- For an EV, provide the model, battery level and condition of the driven wheels.
Before loading
Do not select a gear, release the parking brake or disconnect the battery unless the tow-truck driver asks you to do so.
- Show all damage and report loose body parts.
- Stay off the flatbed and clear of the winch and cable.
- After the vehicle is secured, confirm the destination and recipient contact details.
